Baseball on this week’s Q of the Week
Weigh-in on baseball reactions and celebrations
Monday, June 15, 2009 - 2:31 PM
Aaron Wilberding

The game of baseball is rooted in tradition and rituals. Deep inside there is also an unspoken code of conduct between players not to show each other up. It is sportsmanship after all.

Lately, the line has gotten blurred. It seems after each strikeout, home run or win – even minor Major League wins in April – players are praising the skies above or emphatically pounding fists.

There’s a story on Brewers.com talking about Todd Coffey keeping the reliever antics alive, but that’s just in his entrance. His sprint to the mound – which usually takes around 15 seconds according to the Miller Park stopwatch that dubs it “Coffey Time” – is his usual antic, but on the mound he’s all business.

Trevor Hoffman’s entrance to AC/DC’s “Hells Bells” has become a sensation at Miller Park, but again on the mound Hoffman is all business and finishes the game without showing the opposition up.

Pitchers that have shown batters up include Dennis Eckersley pointing at batters as if he was shooting a gun, New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez gyrating before delivering every pitch and Jose Valverde pointing to the heavens with each strikeout.

Last week we asked which division in the WIAA State Softball Championships would be the most competitive.

Division 1 earned the most votes, but there really wasn’t a wrong answer as all four divisions and 16 games were very close and competitive. Be sure to check out our “State Central” page for a full rundown of the results.

Here’s the final poll:
