Truckers team-up to raise money for Special Olympics
150 semi convoy draws attention to state organization

RICHFIELD – More than 150 semis from across the United States participated Saturday in the World's Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics.

The convoy, from Richfield to the EAA grounds in Oshkosh, was escorted by Wisconsin State Patrol and area sheriff’s deputies.

West Bend’s August Stark was the Special Olympian selected to ride with "Ice Road Truckers" star Alex Debogorski.

“Our goal is to raise $125,000 for the 10,000 athletes of Special Olympics Wisconsin,” said Kelly Kloepping vice president of marketing and communications for Special Olympics.

Kloepping was part of the video team this year, riding along-side the truckers. “It’s great because you see them smiling and waving and honking their horns and there are so many athletes that benefit from this effort.

“It’s an amazing spectacle to see this many trucks in one long line, coordinated by state troopers making this convoy happen all in the name of Special Olympics,” said Kloepping.

During the 2008 convoy, 122 trucks participated and raised more than $100,000
