NECEDAH- Bangor defeated Scenic Bluffs Conference rival Necedah, 61-35, Friday night at Necedah.

The game started with a bang right from the opening kickoff as Ethan Anderson broke off a 77-yard kick return into the Necedah red zone. Bangor scored on the ensuing play and with the two-point conversion successful jumped out to an 8-0 lead.

The Bangor (6-0, 8-0) defense held on Necedah’s opening drive and got the ball back into the offenses hands. Bangor drove the field and added another score, 16-0.

Again Bangor’s defense got off the field and forced Necedah to punt, but on Bangor’s first play of the drive the Cardinals had a rare fumble deep inside their own territory. Necedah recovered and took advantage of the short field as they got on the board for the first time of the evening drawing the score to 16-8.

Lightning struck twice for the Cardinal offense as they committed another turnover on their next drive; Necedah took advantage but after a failed two point conversion still trailed Bangor 16-14.

Bangor answered back with one more score in the exciting first quarter and extended its lead to 22-14.

Bangor came out in the second quarter and added three more scores with Necedah only adding one which sent the game into halftime, 46-20.

The second half started with Necedah moving the ball well but their drive was put to a stop by a lost fumble.

Bangor capitalized on their rival’s mistake, adding another score. Necedah also had another drive stopped by a fumble. Necedah ran back a kick return to add a score and heading into the fourth quarter it was it was 54-28.

Both teams added another score in the fourth and as the game clock hit zero; the score read Bangor 61 Necedah 35.

Bangor had a productive night from their three main backs; John Piske lead the way with 200 yards on 25 carries with 4 touchdowns and moved into second place for all time rushing at Bangor High School. (Read Aaron Wilberding's feature on Piske, here)

Steve Peters added three scores and rushed for 117 yards on 15 touches, fullback Ethan Anderson who had the long kick return in the first added 49 yards on 12 carries.

Bangor had 443 total yards, 402 of which came on the ground. The remaining 41 yards came on its sole pass play of the night when quarterback Kyle Wright hooked up with Bangor tight end Tyler Koeneke on a touchdown pass.

Necedah put up 288 total yards 275 of those were rushing. Senior Brett Jump who had 102 yards and 2 touchdowns led Necedah on 13 carries.

With the win over Necedah (6-2 4-2) Bangor has turned next week’s game versus New Lisbon (8-0 6-0) into the Scenic Bluffs title game. The game will be played next Thursday night at New Lisbon.
