Bangor Wi- The Bangor Cardinals defeated the New Lisbon Rockets 42-6 Thursday in the Scenic Bluffs Conference title game.

Week 9 was a big one in the Scenic Bluffs as both of it’s undefeated teams met up in New Lisbon to see who would walk away with the title.

Mother nature had to have her say in the matter as it was a rainy day and continued through the duration of the contest turning the field into a wet and muddy mess; the poor field conditions added a another element to the already electric atmosphere that seemed to coming from both teams sidelines.

The Cardinals (9-0, 7-0) got on the board first with a 19-yard touchdown when quarterback Kyle Wright hooked up with tight end Jason Burkhardt. After a Cardinal defensive stop Bangor extended its lead to 14-0 on a 2-yard John Piske run.

The real story of the first quarter was both the Cardinals and the Rockets (8-1, 6-1) lost their main offensive threats in the first quarter. Senior New Lisbon quarterback Cobretti Forsythe went down and did not return and the Cardinals leading rusher John Piske went down and saw only limited action the rest of the game. Piske ended with 58 yards and a touchdown on only 10 carries.

Bangor quarterback Wright threw another touchdown pass in the second quarter connecting with tight end Adam Wuensch; extending the Cardinal lead to 20-0.

Wright had a very solid night for Bangor as he went 5-6 for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Ethan Anderson also tacked on a touchdown for Bangor in the second quarter when he busted out a 15-yard run. Anderson finished the night with 11 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown. The score heading into halftime was Bangor 26, New Lisbon 0.

The Rockets got on the board in the second half when Anthony Edgren (21 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown) busted out a 65-yard touchdown run for the Rockets, drawing the score to 26-6. That however would be the only time the Rockets reached the end zone.

Bangor answered back with a 10-yard touchdown run from Steve Peters who also added a 35-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and finished the night with 2 touchdowns and 112 yards on 21 carries.

The senior back got to see numerous touches with Piske not in the backfield.

The Cardinals ended the night with 423 yards 322 of those were on the ground. New Lisbon rushed for 161 yards and had 236 yards total on the night.
