KEWASKUM – More than 250 people attended Sunday's annual Kewaskum High School football team awards banquet.
“Our football program has got a great reputation throughout West Bend and southeastern Wisconsin but also throughout the state,” said coach Jason Piittmann.
The Indians wrapped up their 2009 season 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference.
Although many came to hear about honors and awards, Piittmann started the ceremony calling all the players to the front of the room who maintained a solid 3.5 grade point average or higher through the season.
“These men did an outstanding job the first nine weeks to be very good students,” said Piittmann.
Kewaskum freshmen maintained a first quarter GPA of 3.347, the junior varsity scored at 3.151 GPA and the varsity GPA was 3.365. “Program wide we had a grade point average of 3.32,” said Piittmann.
Student athletes recognized for holding a perfect 4.0 GPA included Michael Holdt, Derek Aupperle, Michael Bier, Joe Herriges, Sam Olla and Taylor Toth.
Fourteen players were named to the all-eastern Wisconsin conference team including senior Brian Bottleman named Offensive Lineman of the Year.
Named to the EWC first team offense were Cody Seibel, Cody Enright, Brian Bottleman, and Jordan Blank.
Selected first team defense were tackle Josh Boettcher, end Jordan Blank, inside linebacker Cody Seibel, Bo Seibel, T.J.Schlice and Brandon Zolp.
Sophomore Mack Donath was the only Kewaskum player named second team defense.
Honorable Mention offense included Nuernberg and Tyler Hoering of Kewaskum. Honorable Mention defense went to Steve Chapman of Kewaskum.
Team awards including Defensive MVP to Cody Seibel, Offensive MVP to Brian Bottleman, MVP Special teams to Brandon Zolp, Offensive lineman of the year Brian Bottleman, Most Improved Steve Kudek, and the Scout Team MVP Michael Schladweiler.
