West Bend H.S. turf project receives major donation
New field to be installed by 2010 season

WEST BEND - "Operation Turf," a fundraising project to install synthetic turf at the West Bend High School’s football field, is moving forward on the fast-track.

This week the West Bend Youth Football Organization committed a $50,000 donation.

The Operation Turf program is being spearheaded by the West Bend Gridiron Club which plans to raise $585,000 by May.

The Gridiron is trying to raise enough donated funds to replace the existing field without using district tax dollars.

West Bend is home to two high schools that play on the same field. Harsh seasonal weather combined with high volume of player traffic often leaves the field in unplayable condition.

Some of the fundraising efforts include paver brick sales, where the current asphalt walkway from the parking lot to the ticket booth will be removed and replaced with personalized paver brick purchased by “Operation Turf” supporters. (prices range from $99-$495)

Stadium seat sales where home field bleacher seats will be painted to show the names of the individual/families who support “Operation Turf”. ($59) and donor wall where a large monument wall will be constructed within the stadium fence to display the high level “Operation Turf” supporters.(prices range from $2,500-$10,000)

The Gridiron is hoping to meet their fundraising goal in the next few months so construction can begin in June and the field completed prior to the opening kickoff of the 2010 football season.
