WIAA Board of Control votes today
Advisory Council unanimously against redistricting proposal
Wednesday, January 27, 2010 - 4:21 AM
Judy Steffes

STEVENS POINT – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control votes today on proposed football changes including redistricting and the end of season schedule.

Although the intentions are clear, the WIAA may have their work cut out for themselves as the Advisory Council has reportedly voted against the measure.

Reporter Mark Stewart outlined details in his latest story, WIAA football plan suffers another blow.

The council, which is composed of high school administrators from around the state, unanimously voted against recommending the proposed to the Board of Control, 17-0.

Earlier this month, the Sports Advisory Committee voted, 11-2, against the proposal, which would end conference play and place teams into eight-team districts based on enrollment and location.

In December, the Football Coaches Advisory Committee voted 6-1 to continue the discussion of the district proposal.

If the proposal passes, it would take effect next season.

FEEDBACK AND PREDICTIONS...

The district football proposal will be dead after the Board of Control votes today. It did not pass at the sports advisory level, the executive staff level or the most recent vote the advisory council. It was defeated at that level 17-0. I think after listening to all the people involved in this drastic change that the executive staff felt as though there might be some other ways to attack the issues that the football teams are facing. Sig Schecher – Athletic Director Mayville High School
