CUMBERLAND – Every year the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association publishes a yearbook for spring and summer high baseball.
Joe Waite is the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association publications director, editor and primary author of Baseball Wisconsin, the WBCA's annual baseball yearbook.
Waite begins every September collecting data including stats and photos, names and numbers. He then compiles the information into a fabulous preview of the WBCA and amateur baseball in Wisconsin.
This year the 188 page yearbook includes highlights of state teams, along with conference standings from 2009, a complete list of WBCA coaches in the Hall of Fame and a full list of 2010 Wisconsin pre-season baseball rankings.
Having already gone to press, Waite marked this year's effort with over 93-percent of teams responding.
“Much of that is due to the unfortunate fact that I and several conference reps have to keep begging some coaches to get their surveys turned in; as you can see some don't bother to do it all,” he said.
While a majority of teams and conferences are featured in the 2010 issue of Baseball Wisconsin, the Indianhead and Northern Lakes Conferences will not be represented. Only Hurley High School in the Indianhead Conference and Florence High School in the Northern Lakes Conference responded.
Other missing teams include Central Lakeshore Conf.: Cedar Grove-Belgium, Oostburg, CWC 8: Shiocton, CWC 10: Menomonee Indian, Tri-County, Cloverbelt East: Spencer, Cloverbelt West: Gilman, Dairyland Large: Whitehall, Dairyland Small: Alma Center, Augusta, Eleva-Strum, Dunn St. Croix Small: Glenwood, Pepin, Lakeland East: Cornell, Winter, Lakeland West: Webster-Siren, Marawood South: Auburndale, NL WVL, M & O: Peshtigo, Midwest Classic N: Messmer, North Shore: Germantown, Olympian: Reedsville, Ridge & Valley: La Farge, Seneca, Wauzeka-Steuben, Scenic Bluffs: Bangor, Wisconsin Flyway: Laconia, North Fond du Lac, and Woodland South: St. Francis.
“It's unfortunate; this project is about recognizing the kids who play baseball and the men who coach it. Here's hoping for a better and quicker response in 2011," said Waite.
