Believe it or not the summer baseball season has eclipsed the halfway point of the season.
Conference races for the 67 teams involved in the eight conferences (The Dairyland has a Large and Small division.) are heating up. They are all available on our team pages, but we wanted to take a closer look to see who the front runners are with three weeks left in the regular season.
Seeding meetings start as early as July 3 in some cases. Here’s the full list.
If you see missing scores for your team, please have your coach send them to us by E-mailing stats@prepsonthenet.com or faxing 262.334.7070.
Conference standings prior to games played Monday, June 28. (in alphabetical order)
Central Lakeshore Conference Conf. Overall
Howards Grove 8-1 8-5
Elkhart Lake-Glenbulah 6-3 6-8
Sheboygan Area Lutheran/Kohler 5-4 5-8
Oostburg 4-5 4-10
Random Lake 2-7 3-11
The nonconference records for these teams are usually low because this is the only conference in the state that plays with wood bats. Howards Grove won the conference last year and lost just two seniors from that team. Elkhart Lake-Glenbulah and Howards Grove do have one more game left, July 9, at Howards Grove.
Classic Eight Conference Conf. Overall
Arrowhead 9-3 10-10
Waukesha West 7-3 12-5
Kettle Moraine 8-5 9-11
Mukwonago 7-5 10-7
Waukesha North 6-5 8-12
Milwaukee Pius XI 4-7 6-11
Waukesha South 3-9 4-15
Catholic Memorial 2-7 3-11
Arrowhead and Waukesha West are tied in the loss column and have two more meetings in the next nine days, playing Thursday at Waukesha West and July 7 at Arrowhead. Kettle Moraine, Mukwonago and Waukesha North are not out of it yet either, just two games out in a fairly even conference from the middle to the top.
Dairyland-Large Conference Conf. Overall
West Salem 11-0 14-3
Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau 6-1 7-5
Arcadia 7-3 7-3
Blair-Taylor 4-3 6-3
Melrose-Mindor 2-4 4-6
Whitehall 1-3 1-3
West Salem controls its own fate in winning a fifth straight conference title. The Panthers and G-E-T played to a 3-1 win for West Salem the first time around and the second meeting is set for July 9 in West Salem.
Dairyland-Small Conference Conf. Overall
Cochrane-Fountain City 6-6 6-6
Alma 3-4 3-4
Lincoln-Alma Center 1-5 2-6
Augusta 1-4 1-4
Eleva-Strum 1-6 1-6
Independence-Gilmanton 1-6 1-6
Bill Wilhelmi’s CFC Pirates were the preseason pick to win the conference and have jumped out to the early lead. Alma won the conference last year and should be heard from before all is said and done with a July 1 date with CFC.
Eastern Wisconsin Conference Conf. Overall
Kewaskum 10-0 16-3
Campbellsport 5-4 10-7
New Holstein 5-5 7-7
Plymouth 4-4 7-6
Sheboygan Falls 5-6 6-13
Kiel 4-7 9-7
Two Rivers 1-8 2-8
Kewaskum is on its way to ending New Holstein’s three-year reign of the conference and has done so behind the big bat of sophomore Brad Boegel. With 10 games left on the conference schedule, the Indians are not out of the woods yet and will need to keep rolling into the postseason.
Great Metro Conference Conf. Overall
Muskego 11-3 17-5
Brookfield East 8-3 16-5
Oak Creek 9-5 18-5
Menomonee Falls 8-5 20-8
Milwaukee Marquette 6-5 12-8
Sussex Hamilton 6-6 13-7
Franklin 5-5 13-8
Wauwatosa East 5-6 12-11
Brookfield Central 4-8 6-11
West Allis Hale 4-8 10-11
West Allis Central 1-13 3-18
The super conference of summer baseball in the state left behind the two-division format this year and will play an 11-team conference tournament at the end of the season. Muskego and Brookfield East currently sit on top of the standings, but do not be surprised to see one, if not more of the teams in the middle of the pack get hot over the next two weeks and make the state trip to Stevens Point.
North Shore Conference Conf. Overall
West Bend West 10-1 20-1
Nicolet 8-3 15-6
Grafton 6-4 11-6
Whitefish Bay 5-4 14-11
Cedarburg 6-6 11-9
Germantown 5-5 9-9
West Bend East 5-7 9-16
Slinger 5-7 8-9
Homestead 3-8 8-11
Port Washington 1-20 3-16
Nicolet was the preseason pick by the coaches, but West has come on and even swept Nicolet, 1-0, back on June 1 and 5-3 on June 21. The two teams do not play each other again this season, but West does have Whitefish Bay twice on the schedule and Nicolet has Germantown twice as it tries to keep up and wait for the Spartans to trip up.
Woodland Conference-Black Division Conf. Overall
New Berlin Eisenhower 9-2 15-5
Greendale 5-3 5-11
Whitnall 6-4 9-6
South Milwaukee 5-5 11-9
Greenfield 5-6 8-10
Wauwatosa West 1-7 2-12
Eisenhower had every pitching inning back this year and it has shown. The Lions continue to lead the conference standings, but has yet to play Greendale. There are three meetings with the teams set for July 3 and a double header on July 12. Those games should go a long way in figuring out the conference champ.
Woodland Conference-Blue Division Conf. Overall
Cudahy 9-3 12-10
St. Thomas More 7-3 11-9
New Berlin West 7-4 9-7
Brown Deer 7-7 10-8
Shorewood 4-6 5-12
Pewaukee 3-9 6-15
St. Francis 2-11 2-11
This should be a fun race to follow as Cudahy, Thomas More and West all play each other down the stretch, including a July 6 doubleheader between Cudahy and Thomas More and a July 12 doubleheader between East and Thomas More.
